== Weekly Report #11: Cycles Motion Blur ==

30 August 2013

==== What I did this week ====

This week, thanks to Brecht's help, deformation motion blur is officially
working! The important revision is r59544.

Unfortunately, it is '''definitely''' not optimized; a tile with
deformation motion blur can take 10x or longer than a tile without. It will
take a lot of code refactoring. Also, the CUDA build does ''not'' work.

This week, I have to admit that little got done, relatively speaking
anyway. A lot of the time, I was wrestling with my mediocre skills.
Fortunately, I ran into Brecht on IRC, and we figured out that I was
overthinking the problem...again. It is something I tend to do, and I hate
it. However, I learned quite a bit. Brecht answered my questions, and I
should be able to continue working faster.

I am disappointed with my performance on this second half of GSoC. If I
were completely honest, I would not give myself a passing grade at this
point. However, I have three weeks left. I hope to do better.

==== What I will do next week ====

Next week, I will be moving into my new apartment and getting ready for
school, but my other summer job will be ending. That should be an
improvement. At this point, I feel that I have three tasks left: 1) Get the
motion blur sped up until it's at an acceptable speed, 2) Get the code
refactored so that Cycles will use the Woop algorithm for non-blurred
objects, and 3) Get the CUDA build working again.

Next week, I will work on getting number 1 done, and if I can work on
number 2, I will. Number 3 is not terribly important to me because it is
not one of my deliverables.

==== Questions ====

None right now.
