a) This week
As expected my work has been less "juicy" than last week as I turned
my attention more towards bug hunting and cleaning things up. I'm
pretty happy though of what I've done as I understood better how the
algorithm works, and I am more confident about what I have done so
far.
I've not updated the wiki as I wanted to but I posted a sort of FAQ on
blenderartists:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showpost.php?p=1133514&postcount=24
I will put this on the wiki later.
I also added the "rendering time" stamp option, which, btw, I think
should go in trunk ;)
b) Next week
There's one "big" bug left, that is, a scene that doesn't render
correctly, and I have yet to look into that one: it could reveal
serious problems or be trivial to solve, who knows. In parallel,
though, I started writing the "cosine bounding code" that is
fundamental to support material bounding (should speed up rendering
times even more), specularity, more BRDFs, and oriented lights. Once
this code is in place, the code should evolve pretty quickly. I plan
to commit this next week.
In order to debug more effectively, I also need some other tools, such
as an "instant color picker" in the UV/Image editor, as well as
displaying pixel coordinates under the mouse. At some point I may
decide to suspend the lightcuts code and work for a couple of days on
that, it may be worth the trouble.
c) Issues
None so far.
d) Schedule
At this stage it's still hard to tell. I would say I am on track, and
I'm not worried. When updating the wiki I will also publish a revised,
more detailed schedule.
Cheers,
UncleZeiv
