Daniel,

Your information locating the scene layers lock was helpful, but I still
cannot figure out how to use it to achieve what I want. To illustrate
what I'm trying to do, imagine that I have a still life, with a number
of objects, a fork, a knife, a couple of pieces of fruit, a child's toy,
a vase, and a cup, on a table. When I consider each piece, I'm satisfied
with each of them by itself, but I'm dissatisfied with the toy when I
look at them together. I want to be able to edit the toy in wireframe
mode, but at the same time, to see the other elements in the still life
in textured mode. How might I use scene lock's to accomplish this?
