What about them? In Blender right now you would need to select one part of
a time and bake them individually. With this proposal you can bake them all
at once. (* and we can add a copy/paste bake maps too)

> If I join objects in the wrong order, will I lose all the baking settings?
We could merge objects as we do with UVs, combining them by name.
That said, that sounds like a small detail compared to the big picture.
