[Bf-compositor] [enh] thumbnail previews + node border color

Am I correct in understanding Aditia's post is just requesting that in the preferences, there be a toggle for having nodes collapsed into their smallest view when added?
I do often have the problem of not being able to drag&drop a node where I want it because the wires are too close or the node is too big. Collapsing it solves this. I'm not sure I like the idea of nodes being collapsed upon adding, though. What if there was something else, like, when you drag a node to move it, it auto collapses while you drag it, then reverts to whatever state it was in when you let go of the mouse button? Or maybe a keyboard shortcut for that kind of behavior. I'm sure there's probably already a keyboard shortcut for collapsing the nodes, which would make all this discussion not relevant to my workflow. :)
Regarding tree navigation, wouldn't an ideal solution be a small thumbnail node view? Photoshop and Nuke have similar things that work great. The photoshop one gives you that nice little red box to show you right where you're zoomed in at.

Is there a better way you guys can think of for tree navigation?

Would this Collapse feature allow you to select a region of nodes to shrink? It wouldn't save space as the nodes don't move closer when collapsed but I guess they are easier to follow.
Is there a benefit to a feature like Auto-condense upon auto-collapse? That is to keep the relative space between nodes constant when they are smaller.

Thanks for the feedback.
We should discuss the "auto collapse node feature". It sounds like
a workaround for a bigger subject: Tree navigation.
Can someone put it on the wiki?
Greetings,
Jeroen.

Hi Jeroen & Monique
Thanks a lot for your magic :) Btw, can we have hide node
preference (not hide preview) ? IMO it will increase space in
editor, also avoiding miss attaching node.
So,the workaround when we add a new node, it will be in hide
mode. We can navigate it more easily and attach it to any
noodle. After that we can expand it or use property panel to
adjust the node.
Thanks and Cheers.

Hi All,
The changes for thumbnail previews and node border colors
have been
merged with trunk.
In the compositor only the input previews will be visible
by default.
all others are made invisible. Via the hide/show preview
these can still
be made visible.
The node colors can be altered in the UserPreferences. We
should poke
the themes maintainers to update their themes.
Also there is a small glitch that need to be updated by
them.
Please give us feedback about the usage. So what would be
our next priority?
Regards,
Jeroen & Monique
