[Bf-committers] 2.49: prevent reading 2.5+ ?

+1 for agreement. the new mesh structure is new data, and old programs cannot possibly be expected to understand newer/different data structures. Besides, FREE UPGRADES to any user who wants to read in a 2.5 bmesh.

The recommended procedure is to use 2.5+ with those files.

I don't see why that's such a big deal, the same thing happened lots of time in the past already (fluids, particles, softbody, armatures, nodes, ...), the only difference is that now we want to give a better warning instead of just dropping data on forward incompatibility.

There's no problem for backward compat though, this is taken care of.
