Looks good. It would cope with larger loops than just 4 sides?
I mean, like if I were to create two 16-vertex tubes, I could connect
those two?

I think selecting an edge (or a vert) is probably the most sane way
of doing it. For an algo, it'd be something like a "find shortest
connection between an edge on each, discounting current view-point"?
Anyway, it could be coded/done later, if needed.

Would be very useful this tool! I often find myself doing things like this 
by hand, when "fill" just doesn't cut the mustard (heh).
