[Soc-2010-dev] Weekly Status Report

Wow, the last week of the SoC period is upon us.

This week:
After several weeks making very slow progress, I decided to change tack and
get back to more work on the simulation side so that I'd at least get
something done quicker. So, when I finally got some coding time (after
tackling the incoming assignments again) I worked on getting Force Fields
working. After a little bit of figuring out how this all fitted together
(note to self: add jottings about this to wiki), it was quite
straightforward to integrate them.

I also started tackling some bugs affecting various aspects of the
simulation, mainly those which required some more controls to manage.

This coming week:
I'll be mostly concentrating on fixing some of the stability/polishing bugs
I've had reported. In particular, I'll be checking on:
- crashes due to Rigid Body sims not being aware of scene changes (i.e.
deleted objects). Also duplication of objects could get some attention
- whether GImpact instead of triangle meshes for the "Mesh" shape will work
better overall for cases such as Tori/Chains
- responding to changes of mesh shape (for convex hull and mesh shapes)?

Time allowing, I've been interested in adding some "simulation element
templates" for a while. Main items here are chains and brick walls which
always seem popular.

Manipulator API stuff I've decided to postpone until post-SoC as I don't
think I'll come up with any nice solution within the next week (with the
above items and assignments to work on)

So, that should be about it I think.
