Hey Alex,

It's not ViewCVS per se, it's the perl script that generates the mails:
it doesn't take the branch into account, but a URL like this one
does it correctly:

http://projects.blender.org/viewcvs/viewcvs.cgi/soc-blender/source/blender/makesdna/DNA_scene_types.h.diff?r1=1.1.1.1&r2=1.1.1.1.18.1&cvsroot=soc-2005&only_with_tag=qwe

I took a quick look at the script, but it's really perl-ish
and hard to read: lots of squiggles and stuff. If somebody with perl 
skills wants to take a look at it I can mail it to them.
It probably wouldn't be too hard to fix, since the branch name
is somehow obtained already in a different part of the email.

BTW, at the bottom of (most of) the ViewCVS pages, there
is a pulldown that lets you select the branch.
