Jim,

My name is Eugene Reilly and I'm helping Tim Wakeham and the rest of the
Summer of Documentation team. Thanks for sending in your proposal to
Blender's Summer of Documentation. We're glad to know that someone so well
known in the documentation of Blender is interested in the project.

Tim and I were looking at your proposal and had some thoughts on it. From
what you wrote, it seems that you are proposing to update your Blender
Basics book and put it in wiki format. I'm certainly waiting for the update
to your manual, though it doesn't seem to capture the scope of this
particular documentation project which is to focus on a specific subject
area and expand on concepts, techniques, and of course, the tools to use
them in Blender. Given that you already have an amazing documentation
project already done and your focus in class with Blender is 3D design,
animation, and architectural walk-throughs, perhaps you would like to focus
on a specific aspect of blender you have in the manual and expound on it in
greater detail?

For example, your manual covers lighting in chapter 4 and 8 which covers
Blender's interface, button description, general usage. A detailed look at
lighting types, lighting techniques (lighting for architecture, lighting for
still shots, lighting with compositing, etc.) might be a way to focus the
proposal and also give your students (and the entire Blender community) a
more advanced look into it. Though I don't know the detail of the courses
you teach, so maybe you've covered this kind of detail. Keep in mind
lighting is just an example.

Feel free to e-mail me or the bsod-mentors at blender.org list, if you have any
questions or comments!

Eugene Reilly
