Someone posted a link to the mailing list on the Blender Artists thread
about the new site, I feel like this will unfortunately cloud the
conversations into silly heavily opinionated disputes - just a warning.
As for the new site, as mentioned before, it looks great and is easy a
giant leap forward. The only real valid comment I saw was about the
title text over the images. Personally, I love it - I think it is a
really nice way to treat it, but clearly some people have some issues.
Also, from previous experience, I can tell you that there will be a time
when part of an image is not opportune for text over it, or the contrast
is simply not available. You shouldn't limit your showcase options to
just ultra dark images, so it would be a smart idea to add a drop shadow
behind the header text to ensure it is always readable - even if you
treat it subtly (like with a heavy blur or opacity it would be a good
idea.
As for a previous comment about votes or a survey, please don't humour
this idea. It will just muddy the direction and vision and will lead to
something mediocre. There is more than enough information about why
opinionated testing is invalid and counterproductive... this would not
be a fruitful path to take.
I cant wait until all of the site is themed appropriated (like the
store) - I think the site will cohesive and all around more polished.
Thanks to all who have transported the site to the state it is currently
in. Great work!
