I agree with most people finding the testing layout as very clean but 
not so visually involving, in particular for a graphic software...

I find typo3 site is inspiring (although not responsive atm) and some 
concept could be adapted to blender site too.
ironically, typo3 is the current cms that's being replaced in favour of 
wp :-)

* it's clean but somhow more colorful and appealing
* the main scrolling banner has description for every section just below
* the menu has "community" and "contribute" instead of "get involved"
* has "counters" with meaningful numbers explaining the vastness and 
power of the software
* has a "demo" section that could be replaced by "screenshots" (maybe 
with a short description?) for blender
* has an "extensions" section that could apply so well to blender too
* many others nice pieces ther... imho
