Well balanced methods to give you great keys quickly only exist in
dreams and demos.

The current state of the art is that for any reasonable level of
complexity, there will just be a lot of work involved. That's not to
say that blender's keying nodes could be improved, but with limited
resources, spending time developing good a roto workflow+tools will
give artists *much* more bang for your buck, much more than trying to
invent a new keying technique  that does everything, that the rest of
the industry just happened to miss.
