I just wanted to point out that Irix support for
Python did not get removed in Python 2.4 (indeed,
I have a machine at work that runs it).
The document you reference talks about removing
irix4 support for python, a really old version of
the operating system. I don't see any plans in that
document to remove irix6, which was the last revision
of that OS -- please get your facts straight!
For the record, I'm mostly indifferent about whether
Irix is dropped or not since I don't use that system,
but I would lean towards keeping it in and letting
whoever does use it maintain the #ifdef's, etc.
Irix support hasn't been a major stumbling block for
development on the more popular platforms (or even a
minor one).
