[Bf-python] Node tree type

Dear all.
I can now associate a custom node tree to a material using the new functionality in 2.79 but this association is forgotten every time I load the Blender file. Is there a way to make the association permanent within a Blender file? I'm also trying to get the custom node tree associated with the current material to appear within the node editor window, like Cycles nodes. I can do this with a persistent function but wondered if there is a simpler way.
Regards
Ryan

Dear all.
For my VI-Suite addon I would like to be able to directly associate a new
node tree type to a datablock; in this case a material. I understand this
is not currently possible and was wondering if that was the indeed the
case and, if so, if there are any plans to implement this and, if not,
where best to request this feature.
Cheers
Ryan
