[Bf-funboard] question about scenes and layouts

I was recently experimenting with something I'd like to be able to do in
blender, make several 3d scenes, and use VSE to directly add them as scenes
and directly sequence them. I created 50-frame scenes Cube, Sphere, and
Plane, then a fourth 150-frame scene "VSECombine".

I added the 3 scenes to the VSE, arranged them end-to-end, and hit alt-A. I
expected to see my three clips run in sequence. They didn't.

The first problem was easy to fix, the Timeline on the VSE layout was set
to push to both 3dview and sequencers. So I changed that to just
Sequencers. However, it still didn't work.

Upon going back to the Default layout, I found it was still set to my Plane
scene, and that the Plane scene was now 150 frames long. Oops, that was
odd. Seems annoying that I have to make sure no other scenes are loaded in
other editors before touching the timeline -- for it might change the other
scene's length.

After mucking around, the best outcome I could achieve, was seeing the
first clip play from frames 1-50. The other two clips never played back.

Question: Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to get this to
work?

Question: Why does the timeline data-push land on editors which have scenes
different from the current Layout's scene? That seems like a bug to me. Is
there some reason for this behavior?
