I really think the design should be for the qwerty keyboard (dvorak
user here) because what really counts is that the design is made just
like the design for the DV keyboard was, to reduce movements needed as
much as possible. The most used keys should be on the left home row
with the big finger having the most common and then working down from
there. The only other way that makes any sense to me, is to use
mnemonics. On all computer systems I have used it is really easy to
change the keyboard mapping.

The problem with 12345 etc is that you have to move your fingers from
the home row or at least stretch a lot to get there and that really
sucks for something that is used often. The biggest errors we could
make is to make it so that the user must look from the screen to the
keyboard every time they G, S, or R!
