I don't think I made sence, sorry, what I mean is, when modeling, lets say 
you're making a post with a base.  Add > cylinder,  deslect all, box select  
bottom vert,s e-key (Extrude), escape (or right click)  top view, s-key, 
size a base, front view, g-key, pull down a bit (for a slope), extrude 
(e-key), pull down again, and you have a post with a base...

see? it's useful???
