Flip bits, bad blocks, checksum errors, ecc errors, power failures, etc...
Doesn't matter the system being used (SVN, GIT, SQL, etc), nothing is like
a good, old, tested and functional backup...

A simple local robocopy of the SVN directory, and we are all ok...
