Hi,
it seems that there is quite some interest in SEO and indeed I had
planned to do that after 2.5 -> 2.6 + AutoReference, in order to work on
a more stable wiki.
I'd like to start this thread to see what comes out :)
SEO "Experts" Team
======================================================================
If there are some volunteers to start a discussion that wold be useful :)
Though, I would kindly ask interested people to:
* Have some actual experience in SEO!
Let's not just talk on common sense please, or we just run in circles,
we might even ruin the current ranking by making trial-and-error too much.
* Avoid to write SEO books in mail!!
The "wall-o-text", as Dan called it :), will just give very poor
chances to you mail to be actually read, and answered.
Rather:
* be short and schematic
* link to useful resources here
* even better, prepare some good docs in your user pages in wiki
SEO Basic todos
======================================================================
These are some basic todo that we can do without being SEO gurus :)
Making a sitemap.php
-----------------------------------------
We need to have a sitemap.php
There is a maintenance script in mediawiki that does the sitemap, I'll
run it on the stable structure, after 2.5 -> 2.6 next week or so.
Keywords
-----------------------------------------
How to find the correct keywords for each manual page?
These can be applied later using an extension
This can be done manually or with some tool
I have some ideas how to do this, but would be nice to discuss it.
Who wants to give it a try?
H1 vs H2
-----------------------------------------
Check that all manual pages start with a "= foo =" (these become <h1> in
the html page) instead of a "== foo ==" (these become <h2> in the html
page), because <h1> has greater importance than <h2> for a search engine.
We need to find the pages that start with a == foo == and change that
into a = foo =, also scaling up all === bar === to == bar==, ==== qoo
==== to === qoo === etc.
Who wants to work on this?
Thanks!
Regards,
Luca
