Dear all,

I am Lorenzo Lastilla, a Ph. D. student in Data Science at Sapienza
University of Rome. I am writing to you because I would really enjoy
working with Blender community in occasion of the next Google Summer of
Code 2020. My research field is focused on Digital Humanities, namely on 3D
digitization of ancient undeciphered scripts and on the development of
strategies based on machine learning to help the paleographers to decipher
these scripts, in the context of the ERC INSCRIBE project (
https://site.unibo.it/inscribe/en).

Because of this, I would really be interested in developing ad-hoc shading
tools (such as radiance scaling, curvature enhancement) for paleographical
purposes (and, in general, for 3D shape analysis) on Blender, useful to
enhance the legibility of the ancient scripts, which would be of utmost
importance to scholars to disambiguate the debated inscriptions.

I think that the scientific community would really benefit from this
cooperation with yours, but also Blender would benefit from it, by
expanding the spectrum of its users, in terms of quantity and type.

For any clarification, do not hesitate to contact me.

I thank you in advance for your availability.

Best regards,

Lorenzo
