Hi all,
We have had a couple of meetings on Tuesday, July 2nd and today
Monday, July 8th, 2019 regarding the coordination of Blender development
and releases. The participants were Brecht van Lommel, Dalai Felinto
and Nathan Letwory.
Here follows a short summary with the highlights of those two meetings:
* overview of work done for 2.80. First half (until 2018) less coordinated
than
second half (2018-2019)
* there is a need to improve the development process: good onboarding,
better
code review, communication with new and prospective devs,
bugfixing/triaging,
documentation, testing. Some parts of these tasks can and should be
automated
* RC 2.80 on 11th of July
* Final 2.80 still on 18th or 25th July
* Tentative target period for 2.81 3-4 months from now (October/November),
but depends on available resources (part of core team AFK during August)
* Went over list of modules and the state of their current projects as per
https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Modules to bring Nathan up to speed
* Next couple of meetings will give more clarity on the division of work
between Dalai and Nathan - there is a lots to do!
