[Bf-committers] Donation Drive for Blender Foundation

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is wise. Especially spending "official" (Blender
Foundation) money on MSVC licenses is an inappropriate way to spend
sponsoring and donations on.

These kind of licenses really should be donated by Microsoft to the
individual developers. Or, we decide to support individual developers
(similar to a Google summer program), and let the devs decide what
tools to purchase or use.
The need for MSVC licenses is also not that urgent to organize
campaigns for... and even better, it's a good test case to see how
serious MS is about support. It costs them nothing to give out 5
license keys.

Lastly; don't forget that all of the blender e-shop sales benefit
Blender Foundation projects too. Peach/Apricot are two clear examples
of how you can 'vote with your wallet'. We also get regularly donations
in via our website.

The 2nd half of 2008 there's no movie/game project here, I want to keep
the agenda free for 2.5 development work. There's ideas being evaluated
to organize for that period a fundraiser to support a developer to work
on architecture related issues (incl finish render api project). I'm
not sure yet how to do this... needs a month to mature.
