Brecht, the referements for benchmarks made were here:

As you can see, Luca made tests on a certain number of svn revisions, whose
rendering time is shown in that plot.

The operating systems used were Linux at 64bit, in particular a mix of 
MandrivaLinux 2007.0, MandrivaLinux 2007.1
and MandrivaLinux 2008.1, spawning on dual, quad and dual-quad core 
either Intel and AMD.
