Hi all,

I posted this on the Blender.org forums but haven't had any response so
I thought I'd post the question here as well :)

I was at the last Blender conference and remember Ton talking about the
possibility of "opening up" the blender rendering API. Now presumably
this would be a massive task. By allowing different render engines to be
set you're also allowing support for different material
settings/textures/lighting/etc. So it's not just the rendering aspect
that's affected.

My question is this: Is anyone working on this? Is this even planned for
the future? I think it'd be a great advance for blender but obviously
not a task to be taken on lightly!!!

Any info on the current state of affairs or how one could help on such a
large project would be much appreciated,

Harry
