hello!
I was doing the french localisation. I think I have more or less 1000
strings translated (maybe not the most important), though I can be wrong
(well, last thing a remember was that poedit said that I was at 15 % of the
translation).
But i ran into several problems as I exposed in a message that was forwarded
here by Ton, back in march. French is less concise than english so words get
out of the buttons which causes gettext to mess up. And menus being built up
dynamically doesn't allow gettext to translate those...
Ton suggested to stick to translating tooltips. However, I've read on the
french newsgroup that people expect more than that.
Anyway, I ended up loosing some motivation. But I still have the upgraded
version of the french translation and am willing to work on it if the
localisation method is reviewed. And if people report, hey! you've forgotten
to translate this or that, or hey! that translation is incorrect, there's no
problem: translating is quite fast.
Oh, By the way, for a moment with a few guys on the
nwes.zoo-logique.org/3D.Blender newsgroup we discussed about opening a
translation wiki... some were frightened by the coding it would involve...
in the end we found out (wow :) )that it would riquire a CVS.
my 2 cents...
Ciao
Dani
