Hi,

In the upcoming Blender 2.71 release, a new feature is foreseen in
Freestyle: proper support for textured strokes. The functionality was
missing for a long time, but Paolo Acampora has volunteered to implement
it back in Freestyle. See nice renders by Paolo using textured strokes:

An up-to-date description of the feature is found at:

https://developer.blender.org/T38327

Interested people are kindly suggested to test the patch set available at:

https://developer.blender.org/D246

You can retrieve the patch using the "Download Raw Diff" link. The patch
has been confirmed to cleanly apply to the latest Git master.

What remains as a question for now is where to put texture-related
options in the GUI. At the moment, all texture options for Freestyle
strokes are in the Properties window > Render Layers tab > Freestyle
Line Style panel > newly added "Textures" tab. I personally found this
location intuitive, because everything related to Freestyle is available
within the Freestyle Line Style panel.

An obvious alternative is to move the Freestyle texture options to the
Properties window > Textures tab. This solution seems more consistent
with other texture options available in Blender (for materials, worlds
and brushes).

Any feedback from artists on this UI design problem would be much
appreciated.

Thank you,
