[Bf-funboard] Any hope for GIF output ?

I am trying to build a snippet bank to enrich some tutorials.
I'd like to use the animated GIF format as they are compact when 
optimized, can be pre-loaded/background loaded and are good for any 
platform.

Is there any chances that we could output to GIF images, animated GIF, 
optimized animated GIF in that order of preference ?
I think that this would be a great asset for Blender. I would certainly 
ease my workflow.
