Hi all, some answers to questions posed below:

Luca, I would rather NOT make a copy of the 2.4 as the basis for 2.5 in one fell swoop, because then it will look like there is stuff there, but the stuff will be bad. Secondly, we will need to reorg a little in light of all the new 2.5 goodies, so it would be better that:
1) the Doc:2.5 just be a Table Of Contents with red links to non-existent pages
2) as an author wants to write a page, he copies source material (2.4, dev notes, etc) and clicks the red link to create that page, and then does that page right then and there.

I do NOT want to get into the situation where we have a hundred half-finished pages, or pages that mix 2.4 and some level of edits.

Letterip: Yes, the 2.5 text will be based on all of the hard work that went into 2.4. Hence my note above about using the existing 2.4 text as the start. The overall manual organization will remain essentially the same, with new pages for the new stuff inserted in the appropriate chapter.

Authors: Do not start on 2.5 doco yet, please. We need to work out workflow and such. Luca has some begging rights with Campbell, and so we are looking into automatic ways of snapshotting the panels, and putting them on the server, so that when you write your page, you are not chained with that drudgery; all you will need to do is link to it with the Image tag. So, WAIT to edit any new pages that are panel-oriented. They are also looking into ways to have the right-click pop-up menu link to doco, which might require some standardized naming or tagging of pages, so hold off until we see if we can make that happen, and then you will only have to put in the tag in or make the change once. 

IN THE MEANTIME, there are still LOADS of undocumented 2.49 features that still need something written on them, so please check the todo list, check out an item and work on it. As i have said before, this conversion will go so much faster if there is a 2.4 starter page to use.
