Hello, Kenneth. I'm not sure what you mean about levels and artifacts.

When saving PNG images, any level is fine, as there's no quality loss (just make sure they haven't been saved as JPEG before). But setting the compression level to 9 (the maximum) makes the file the smallest (well, the smallest possible by whatever program it is you're using).
