We're not really in a rush for a release, we still have 1.5-2 months
to fix this (and even then it's just for a beta release), and it
really is not that much work. The problem here is not a lack of
insight in how to solve it. It seems quite clear to me what needs to
be done for the most part, unix/mac/windows developers can already
implement nearly everything. For undecided things like using XDG and
how to do versions, a developer who wants to work on this can say,
this is what I want to do, get some feedback, and then after a few
days of discussion (or no discussion) just make a decision and do it.
These platform specific issues are not really actively maintained
anyway, so if someone with commit rights volunteers to do it and fix
any resulting bugs, they can :).
