From nick at lonewolfdg.com Mon Nov 13 20:03:40 2006 From: nick at lonewolfdg.com (nick) Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2006 14:03:40 -0500 Subject: [Universe-feedback] Verse Tools are nice but... weird Message-ID: So I am sure you got this already from others. But I still am in the position of wanting to use them. Why are they so weird? Like The 3d modeler, it's not a modeling program. It's eye candy.. And the Shader program, it's not a shader program, it's a space adventure. Why? Your apps would have a greater appeal if they still had eye candy but had a streamlined interface that screamed USE ME. Also why not use Anti-aliasing? Since the apps use a great deal of GPU, why not go full on and make the interface widgets and lines smooth as silk? I am sure the render and stuff has a great deal of power and you want Blender to update it 3d view with this real time shader lighting stuff. But this is not the way. It's not really even that cool after you get lost in it's interfaces after a minute of playing. I have watched your videos before and all ways see even you the developer and designer getting lost inn teh app. That not a good sign/ From zenaphex at gmail.com Sun Nov 26 16:03:25 2006 From: zenaphex at gmail.com (zenaphex at gmail.com) Date: Sun, 26 Nov 2006 09:03:25 -0600 Subject: [Universe-feedback] My Thoughts Message-ID: Interesting project. I've searched for similar things before and never came across Uni-Verse/Verse. I gave it a try though. I would have to agree with another users previous mailing post about how unusable it is. In the Connector, the text is so small to the point that I cannot read it. Plus in Connector and other tools the text is jagged and somewhat illegible. The modeler, Loq Airou, is a very unusual modeler. It works, but not the kind of modeler I had in mind. The manual could be more thorough. I tried loading the sample content, Jorma bird and material test scene. After it loaded, Quel Solaar acted like it was hung or something. It was always busy and never did anything. Does the content take that long to load up? If so, what's an average load time? The simple cube loaded quickly though. I totally like the idea of having my own personal 3D space that people can connect to like they can connect to any web page. Only, in this case, Uni-Verse has no web-based integration for seamless web connectivity just as you can use a simple browser to load up any web page, as far as I know. I don't mind it being separate though. This will open up a world of possibilities when it comes to surfing in real 3D rather than an illusive 3D. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Couple of issue I would like to point out... 1. Quel Solaar - Loading ./vml/building.vml hangs program. It shouldn't take that long to process the file if it can load the cube-on-ground.vml in no time. 2. Loq Airou - Sometimes doing a Full Crease crashes program. 3. Connector - Adding a Texture fragment after adding Color, Light, Blender and Output hangs program. Reconnecting immediately hangs program upon program desktop entry. Some ideas after working with it a bit... 1. Quel Solaar - Possible to have some type of status indicator of VML being loaded? I'm fine with a shell-based indicator. 2. Loq Airou - Some way to better snap vertexes. How to make a "perfect" square? 3. Loq Airou - Possible to somehow pre-create a object node automatically for geometry created. 4. Connector - Creating new nodes, then clicking on desktop to list each node shows new nodes overlapping other nodes. Some kind of initial auto-arrangement of new nodes would be helpful. Sorry to bug ya. ;-) Very promising stuff by the way. I would totally use it for my own 3D world creation and letting people explore like they would a web page on the internet. Much more immersive experience. Thanks! :) I'm not the primary author of the tools you have been try- ing (that's Eskil Steenberg, who I Cc:ed this reply to), but I wanted to provide some feedback anyway. > 1. I fear that the binaries you are using might be old and ... less functional than what we have today. Are you running programs from the official release page, or something else? Eskil has updated Windows binaries on his personal web page, at , that you might want to try. This only helps if you do in fact run Windows, of course. If not, please get back to us. > 2. Again, I think this is due to old binaries, there have been plenty of fixes in these programs since the last official relase. > Some ideas after working with it a bit... > > 1. Quel Solaar - Possible to have some type of status indicator of VML > being loaded? I'm fine with a shell-based indicator. Because of the way Verse works, it is not possible for a client to know in advance how much content is on a server, so it is not poss- ible to write a "progress indicator" showing e.g. a percentage or similar. It would, I guess, be possible to add some kind of "alive- ness" indicator, that tells you the program is still receiving data and processing it. I leave further comments to Eskil. > 2. Loq Airou - Some way to better snap vertexes. How to make a "perfect" square? I think snapping has been improved since the release, and hope Eskil can provide further detail. > 3. You're not "bugging" us, we appreciate all feedback we can get! Thanks for getting back to us with your thoughts on the software.
