In the today's meeting (04/04/2005) it has had a discussion about the
integration of Minnaert shader in the Blender “official” cvs.

The principal problems, that it was indicated to solve before its inclussion,
are:

Several persons say that the current implementation is “not” a real
implementation of the minnaert shader and (to avoid confusions) it dont has
to name “Minnaert”.

Too, the “darkness” factor has to change of name because one did not
correspond with the “darkness” factor that is into the Minnaert formule. This
one could make confusion if, by example, somebody try to use “darkness”
factors of tables, etc.

Moreover, it has been said by another people too that could be better commit
the “real and the nvidia” shaders by separate.

Too, it has been said that it could be commit with a button to toggle between
both implementations.

I think that the current “Jonanthan Merritt” implementation is the one that it
mixed the better of the both implementation by his simplicity and usability.

IMO, i would changed the actual name of the Minnaert shader to something more
like “velvet-satin-blender” shader to avoid confusions with Minnaert shader.

May be, it can do a document where it puts how introduce “real” darkness
factor in order to maintain certain compability with Minnaert shader.

What do you think about this?

Regards
Jorge
