[Robotics] Simulating robotic sensors, is it possible?

Hi again
After a week or so without touching Blender/YARP/Python I'm back for the
second fight.
I haven't been able to find any document/tutorial on how to create the
kind of sensors we use in robotics like distance, sound or temperature
sensors. Is it possible to simulate them in Blender/Python? If so, could
you please help me with instructions or references to where I could find
tutorials on this subject?
I'll appreciate any comment/suggestions,
