We did have someone that tried to use Xvid to encode some of the video 
files. The results were about the same under the same compression 
settings. All of the tutorials play under VLC, unless you are talking 
about WMV, then I can see that might be an issue for linux users. I 
choose to use DivX because VLC can play them and most windows users have 
that codec installed.
