Meanwhile, for Linux users interested in tying this improvement...

My branch is rebased against recent master (18.4.2016, just after 2.77a)

Packages for Ubuntu Vivid (15.04), Wily (15.10) and Xenial (16.04) are
in my PPA (Blender release 2.77a with my 2D stabilizer extension included)
