sRGB as a destination isn't the issue.

It is the source.

Again, linear only loosely specifies ratios of a space transform, not even
necessarily positions. The other equally important element is chromaticity.
What CIE Standard Observer color does a value mean?

The OCIO GPU API fits within a color managed system. GL functions do not to
the best of my knowledge.
