[Bf-python] accessing softbody springs via python?

hi,

i want to change the topology of a softbody mesh during the simulation but that's not working. i'm running the script via script links which runs it on each frame change. the script is changing the mesh topology of the softbody mesh, but this resets the whole simulation. i can apply the last vertex coords to the restarted simulation mesh, but the speed information is lost too and cannot be restored.

is there a way to manipulate the softbody vertex and or edge/spring arrays directly? i don't want blender to stop and recalculate the softbody simulation during the manipulation.
