as a sidenote, there seems to be a nice article on doctests in pyzine - 
something to consider? would prevent such things from happening in the 
__future__, as the doc examples would be actually executed as a part of 
the testing..

i have not used doctests myself yet in any project, but more 
conventional unittests (sometimes without a framework just by writing 
functions and asserts, but also with py.test that liked a lot), but 
after reading more about it now will seriously consider from now on.
