It might be worth looking at the 'kids programming language' for ideas
for a simplified python API

Personally I think their implementation is fairly weak, isn't cross
platform (windows/direct x based), and has a lot of functions of
little or no use (a bunch of date functions), and is strictly 2D
based.

So mostly this is to show that there is demand for a simple game
programming API for teaching programming.
