i wonder if it is the slowness in iterating thru the list to find an obj, or 
something else that starts giving probs?

yah, also the Elephants Dream scenes are composed from very many parts with 
groups, scenes / renderpasses etc

but in simulation it is nice to have everything in same space .. say if you 
are driving a million bacteria .. a million is not a lot!
