Yes, that's a good idea, and simple to execute, I'll add it.

Not that I know.  There's a function (actually more than one) for this,
so it's not hard to wrap it in Python.  But probably the best is to do
as you suggested: add an optional argument to nmesh.update(), to make it
recalculate normals, too.
