[Bf-interface] Grease Pencil Layout Proposal

Hi,

The idea of this layout is get as space as possible for drawing. In GP workflow, the drawing area replaces the Camera view in many situations, because what you draw is what you get.

Antonio

Hi,

Daniel suggested that this way the user can resize the camera viewport (pulling to the left) without affects the main drawing area

Best

Hi,

It's great to see that we've got an actual prototype of this now :)

I'm wondering why was the camera viewport moved to sit beside the timeline here? To me, it feels like quite an awkward/uncomfortable place to have it - both for seeing the results (the top-right corner works a lot better for that IMO), and also because it reduces the width of the timelines (which isn't something that's too nice to do).

Cheers,

Joshua

We have been working with Daniel and Antonio on the new layout for use with Grease Pencil in 2D animation, here is a .blend file with the proposal for your review: http://www.pasteall.org/blend/43073

We'd love if the new layout is part of the new Blender 2.78 to accompany GP v2 release

Any comments or suggestion are very welcome

Yes, We could add a predefined set of colors as brushes.

About the color set, rightnow, when you make the first GP stroke in a empty scene, the brushes preset are created, so

maybe could be the same thing with a color set.

      Hi everyone!

I have seen in ToonBoom that they not only provide a default layout, but a set of predefined colors.

I don’t know if this possible, but to have a set of “ready to use color set” could help a lot to new users.

The theme for GP is a great idea!

      Hi Daniel,

Great idea. The proposed layout is quite nice!

It shouldn't be a problem to have different panels open in different layouts. IIRC, that's one of the reasons why we have the ability to create different screen layouts in the first place :)

About the background color, I suppose there are several options:

      1) Always enable "Use World Background" in the viewports for GP

      2) Perhaps a theme dedicated for GP work may also be useful?

      3) Distribute a startup.blend with a GP datablock set up ready to go, complete with a standard palette (or set of palettes even), background, and theme settings optimised for GP usage, and put this in a place with install instructions so that users can add this to their Blender download easily. --> This would be like a "present day" prototype of what the eventual Blender 2.8 workflow modes could end up like, so this could be a useful test case for trying out what approaches work/don't work that well...

      ---------

BTW, there was a list of other changes we were thinking about adding to the default setup that venomgfx had been discussing. We tend to try to not update this file too often as it's a bit of a pain to do it, and it ends up bloating the GIT repository if done too often. (I'd personally love to make the default animation layout not show both the dopesheet and graph editor together and make the output directory for renders be "//render" at the same time for instance instead of tmp/)

      Regards,

      Joshua

        Hi everyone!

After the merge of GP v2 in the trunk (Yay!) maybe is time to get a specific layout for the 2D animation for the 2.78.

The idea behind this is just thinking on the new GP users or even the brand new Blender users that come from
others 2D animation softs, a easy way to start with, just that.

Matias Mendiola have a ¨2D Animation¨ layout proposal and I really liked, a newbie user see all the important things.
        Layout pic: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h9asyun4u8abmty/2D%20Animation%20Layout.jpg?dl=0

        Example pic: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h98is8f5jdvpvt4/2D%20Animation%20Layout1.jpg?dl=0

        So,
        - what do you think about?

        - Is possible for this specific Layout maintain open/visible certain panels and tabs, Like GP tabs/panels?

A interesting problem is the color of the 3D background, so dark to paint. Change the default 3D background color just for

this seems a little exaggerated :), maybe a optional GP theme is enough, any ideas?

        Daniel
