[Bf-funboard] Sculpting normals?

Either by making the effects of sculpting the source object set in the
DataTransfer modifier affect it in real time (or at least when you "lift
the brush"; or perhaps editing a normal map with the sculpt tools working
as expected in a new "normal sculpting mode" (though, anything that is
moved behind something else, disappears form the normal map), which could
have an option of editing the mesh's normals, or sculpting onto a normal
map; or perhaps all of those options, since different workflows might work
better for different people.

Is that doable? And would there be enough users interested in this to
justify the time spent by the developers?
