Your proposal, sound quite complicated to me. 

What about ability to scale by Ctrl+Middle mouse wheel like for blenders 
properties panels now.


Its fast and comfortable, in this case maybe more than for panel UI :)




Option - "Reset to default size" (defined in user preferences) with right 
click is more than appreciated even for existing panels resize.

(I saw proposal several times from users …)




+1 Maybe it can be good if blender will remember size of last opened 
browser.




BTW - this scalable icons slider is from 29 of April https://developer.
blender.org/rB054aa61f3c9af0997cbb0ecf89f73227723a24cd
and I can't see any slider under OS X 10.8.5. Can you post a screen where 
slider is located? Thank you.

(I tried to browse for more info, but zero success, I used build from 
yesterday with factory setting.)

"Showing scalable icons in file browser is excellent, it means that the user
can set up the display to show the assets in the best way for them.

But every time I spawn a *new browser* in an *alternate* window, my choices
are reset to a default view. I want the choice for Blender to remember
where I was last time I used another browser window elsewhere.

Having a user defined "view style list" would be ideal. Like the current
path "Bookmarks" on the side panel

This way a user could define an preferred view style based on their
intended use, separately remembering the last opened folder would make
navigation smoother.
