Its hidden and its kind of a workaround.

To me the solution is not to design menus where this becomes an issue.

Do we have many/any menus with checkboxes?

Tearoff menus have been around for years and aren't specific to maya

We could support but this is really different issue, though it would
mean you could temp tare-off then check all boxes and close.
