Indeed, it wasn't my intention to start a UI discussion in this
thread, better start new threads for that.

If you want to make it easier for developers to implement UI
improvements, then thinking through the effects of the change you
propose is indeed important. Nearly any change the the Blender UI is
necessarily a trade-off, and if you just give a list of pros without
the cons and how to solve or mitigate them, or how the change fits
into the bigger design, then it's not really useful to a developer.
