I'm pretty dubious of the value of tiny UI buttons for standard view
pan/rotate/zoom.

I think if there is value here, it would be in providing access to ALL of
blender's various view movement modes without toggling checkboxes. For
example, instead of going into preferences for rotate-around-selection or
the sidebar for lock-to-cursor, it might be nice to have a
view-rotation-gismo in the upper-right that gives us separate
click-and-drag icons for some of these different options...

- rotate around view center
- rotate around selection
- rotate around active object
- rotate around 3d cursor

This would cut down on checkbox-toggling and modifier key overload for
these super-useful but seldom used operations.
