IIRC someone submitted a fully functional patch for that feature last year some time.  He was in chat talking about it but it didn't get any traction and he faded into obscurity possibly.  I recall chatting with him.  His patch involved constraints also IIRC.

Hi David,

- Would make the corner handles a little bigger so they dont overlap
the central circle (~66...75% of the distance along the handle say?).

- Color could be mix of the handles of either side, so X/Y handle
would be yellow.

- Current x/y/z handles do a nice fade-out when they point directly
towards the view, same functionality would be good for the corner
handles, but rather then pointing towards, they should fade-out when
viewed on their sides as flat-planes.



Otherwise think this is just a matter of writing and getting the patch
reviewed, can be done after 2.68 (unless maintainers here have strong
objection).
