Are you saying just if you press "F12" or always?  Because then clicking the
"Render" button would replace the "Properties" editor with the render
result.
Or even worse you could have the result go to the "Info" editor if your
mouse
was up there. I suppose you could add exceptions to your "always under the
mouse" rule but then you'd end up with something less predictable than it
is now..
